Wet, Wild Coincidences
So on Chris's last week of leave here before he leaves for Korea for the summer we decided to have fun as a family by going down to Six Flags. Who would've thought that we would run into Destinee's best friend and her family (who also has a little girl Kyle's age)...what a fun day!! :) Oh yeah and see if you can find out what is so cool about the picture of the car I took!!
Oops!! I didn't know it would do that.
So I tried to go back in my earlier blog posts and add a second picture on Destinee's play and it re-ordered where the post went so now it's up first but it's not the most recent thing that's happened so read on further!!
An Unexpected Visit
So you know that feeling you get in your stomach when something you know is going to be fun is about to happen... well that's what I felt when my brother called me three days ago and said he was going to be in DC for a conference and would like to visit. So we had a lovely Vietnamese dinner that Chris treated Dan to trying for the first time and then who doesn't love some Coldstone!! A second day visit and a little bit of help on a canoe project late at night then it was off to his DC hotel for an early morning flight. Can't wait to see you and your family again in just a few short weeks for our reunion!! :)

So much to update...
Well I have updated a little of things that have been happening recently but there were some important events that I have totally missed that were captured on Chris's camera...Dalins baptism, trips, pool, camping!! I hope to get those up soon but enjoy the posts about our recent happenings till then!! ;)
Bones and Flowers
Refer to the last post about the play and that will give you more insight into what I'm talking about now, but anyway I helped every Wednesday at drama club practice, helping the children learn the music as Dalin was in it this year as well. I was rewarded at the end of the play very surprisingly with flowers and a fruit basket it was very nice to be recognized. Oh and the reason I have pictures of skeletons is because I made their costumes!! The white bones on their shirts were cut out vinyl stickers... turned out pretty cute even if I do say so myself!! ;)
"My" Jasmine
So who out there doesn't know about disappointment?? Definitely not my little girl Destinee. Six months ago she auditioned for a part in her schools drama club performance, and left for winter break feeling she had done a really good job. Winter break ends and parts are announced... now as most things in the world seniority takes precedence and so therefore the fifth-graders would get the best parts right? For most this is true but as parts are announced it came down to Destinee and one other 5th grade girl for the main part in their play. They just so happen to be friends and as you can imagine by my title Destinee did not get the part and was very crushed, especially as her drama teacher announces that she will be the understudy which as the drama teacher announced to everyone, "This means this person doesn't really have a part but they'll be on stage a lot.". Can you imagine how you would feel if an adult told you that. Well fast forward six months to opening night of the play... Destinee has done the part that she was asked to do and has memorized every line she was supposed to for the main role knowing she probably wouldn't ever even get to say them. Yet at two minutes until the play is scheduled to begin, there is no Jasmine (the play was Aladdin) so Destinee was ready to take on her role and perform to the best of her ability happy and proud of her chance to shine. She is miked and ready for the first scene when the real actress shows up, takes the microphone from her and once again crushes her spirit. Now Mama is usually a pretty tough cookie on Destinee but this moment in particular got me very sad and I felt for her as I started to cry... so sorry this is turned into a novel however she went on, did her few lines that she had, did a wonderful job and even in such a show of maturity that usually I get on Destinee's case about not having she hugged the actress at the very end of the play and told her how good of a job she did. I told Destinee she will always be my Jasmine!!
Did I have it this easy??
I guess that question is for my mom but I pose it to all of you mothers out there... do you remember the end of your fifth grade year being so easy... picnics and games and fingernails and movies!! That's all Destinee has done for the last week of school!! Some of the pictures are dark in her classroom but hey when you're in a portable trailer outside what do you expect? The man is one of her advanced language arts teachers and he's pretty okay not as gruff as he looks. ;)
