"My" Jasmine

So who out there doesn't know about disappointment?? Definitely not my little girl Destinee. Six months ago she auditioned for a part in her schools drama club performance, and left for winter break feeling she had done a really good job. Winter break ends and parts are announced... now as most things in the world seniority takes precedence and so therefore the fifth-graders would get the best parts right? For most this is true but as parts are announced it came down to Destinee and one other 5th grade girl for the main part in their play. They just so happen to be friends and as you can imagine by my title Destinee did not get the part and was very crushed, especially as her drama teacher announces that she will be the understudy which as the drama teacher announced to everyone, "This means this person doesn't really have a part but they'll be on stage a lot.". Can you imagine how you would feel if an adult told you that. Well fast forward six months to opening night of the play... Destinee has done the part that she was asked to do and has memorized every line she was supposed to for the main role knowing she probably wouldn't ever even get to say them. Yet at two minutes until the play is scheduled to begin, there is no Jasmine (the play was Aladdin) so Destinee was ready to take on her role and perform to the best of her ability happy and proud of her chance to shine. She is miked and ready for the first scene when the real actress shows up, takes the microphone from her and once again crushes her spirit. Now Mama is usually a pretty tough cookie on Destinee but this moment in particular got me very sad and I felt for her as I started to cry... so sorry this is turned into a novel however she went on, did her few lines that she had, did a wonderful job and even in such a show of maturity that usually I get on Destinee's case about not having she hugged the actress at the very end of the play and told her how good of a job she did. I told Destinee she will always be my Jasmine!!

Way to go, Destinee! I look forward to us all seeing "Aladdin" here at Tuacahn.
